To my Kent County MI readers

You know about the so called "donut hole" that applies to prescription drugs paid for by Medicare.

And many of you know the wisdom of using the special programs many companies like Wal-Mart etc. provide rather than paying for prescription drugs through Medicare's drug coverage.

More and more companies are providing discount prescription cards.

Now, if you live in Kent County MI, your county government (with the assistance of the Area Agency of Aging) plans to introduce a prescription discount card in 2009.

The card will be available to all residents of Kent County and can be used at any participating pharmacy in the state of Michigan.

It's not insurance and is not a supplement to your current coverage. You use one or the other - your insurance or the card.

The card will be available to all residents of Kent County - regardless of income, age, or current health care coverage.  It is expected to be especially helpful to Medicare beneficiaries who have fallen into the donut hole and need help in paying for their prescriptions.

Pharmacies planning to participate include CVS, K-Mart, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, and the pharmacies in D&W, Family Fare, Meijer, and Felpausch stores.
